Merry Christmas from Santa Cthulu.
Santa Cthulu brought stupendous and unheard-of splendors awaiting below...
Rhu got an endless cave of darkness. It crinkles. And it is sprinkled with catnip.
Caleb loves the ducky from Nonny and Poppy. He likes to stand it upright and then knock it down.
Whoa, Caleb!
... I warned you.
Eventually, Caleb figured out the ducky can double as a napping pillow.
Rhu had plenty of attention and play with friends this morning, which caused him to crash out hard.I had friends over this morning for presents and a pancake breakfast. So, so good! I got an amazing haul of presents that I will enjoy a lot. After my friends left, I cleaned up and put the turkey on and laid down on the couch. The History Channel had a Roswell/UFO marathon, which was like a whole other Christmas present for me! Seriously, I am Mulder and I want to believe. I couldn't keep my eyes open and ended up taking an almost-two-hour nap. There is something quite decadent about taking a nap on the couch with the television on.
Karen was going to come over to watch movies and have wine tonight, but she ended up having a terrible holiday. So instead of entertaining again I played Animal Crossing on the Wii (an xmas present) and drinking a glass of pinot noir. I'm now watching the Golden Girls Christmas episode marathon on Lifetime. It's been so long since I've watched this show. Best line so far? Dorothy telling Blanche "I"m getting herpes just hearing this story." Er, happy holidays, I suppose...
I'm currently thinking of previous Christmases, the ones spent with my family. I have two favorite Christmases. One is when I got the Barbie mansion and all the furnishings - like the china cabinet with little silver utensils and a refrigerator with ice cube trays and little plastic ice cubes, etc.
The other one is the Christmas when my mom decided to read the Bible at Christmas Eve. We read the Book of Matthew together, and then at midnight Mom opened the door to welcome the spirit of Jesus. I don't remember what presents I got that year. I don't even remember how old I was then. I do remember my mom reading from the family Bible to me and I think it is the very same Bible where my dad found my first name. I remember that the phrase "do not be afraid" is in the Christmas story according to Matthew several times.
Because this is my favorite time of the year - new year celebrations of many traditions are around the corner, my birthday happens next month, schools start back up soon, the sun still sets early enough to have a real evening, snow falls, and many other good things in life happen now - I feel a real connection to this time. Add to this that in five months, I will have a hard-earned MFA degree. I have no career and no idea of where I will be living next year. I have no life plans, which is in my opinion the best way to live. It feels like at this time every year, I am afforded the chance to start over again and to choose new directions. During this holiday season, I am trying to keep in mind that I do not need to be afraid. Things have a way of working out for the best, and I just need to remember to open the door and let Christmas spirit in. I am Mulder. I want to believe.
