School + DNC

So school has started up again. This is my last semester of classes, which is a bit of a relief and yet also sad.

I will not miss first day introductions, though. Why is it that whenever a writer speaks about what they are working on, they sound like a total arsehole? I'm not exempting myself from that, btw. I only said I am working on figuring out my thesis topic(s), which is very true and also very brief. Everyone else pretty much said pretty much the same thing.

Here is a template for MFA students:
I'm (insert name). I'm working on a (modern/post-modern/post-post-modern/futuristic) piece right now. It's a (hybrid/neo-hybrid/post-hybrid/post-post-hybrid) (novel/screenplay/poetry collection) about (zombies/vampires/lesbians/hippies) in a dystopian world who (mutate/smoke pot/overthrow the government/read Kerouac).

Gah.

My books will be around $150 this semester. Relatively, this is pretty good considering these are books I'll be able to keep and use beyond the semester and in past undergrad semesters there were books that were $125 per book, which I could not resell nor realistically use again.

Of course, it's politics-central here this week with the convention. I wish I had known The Daily Show and The Colbert Report were shooting here! I might have made arrangements to go... But it is a very busy week with school and work as it is.

Oh, I did not get tickets to Invesco. I had enough volunteer hours before the tickets were given out, but there were still too many of us. I suspect they gave my ticket to Charlize Theron or Ben Affleck...

That's okay. I'm going with La Tora Verda to the theater and we're watching a simulcast. I just hope that simulcast is not set to Fox or CNN because I have had it with both of those stations. After Hillary RC spoke tonight, the commentators drove me bonkers. I thought she gave a good speech. I thought she was gracious. I don't care how many pronouns she used, or if her pantsuit color was a secret code, or if playing her speech backwards will tell us the walrus is Obama.

In local news, the boys continue to be adorable as ever. Caleb is feeling much better and acting like himself again.
